Founded in 1912 by David Richter, Richter+Ratner (R+R) was built on the vision of “taking clients out of the construction business so they can focus on their own.” Committed to integrity and quality, the company thrived for three generations as a family-owned business, establishing a strong niche in retail construction.

In 1998, Marc Heiman and Mark Gaccione first collaborated on the Central Synagogue project, forging a friendship and professional partnership built on trust and mutual growth. With Heiman at the helm of Richter + Ratner, Gaccione brings his expertise as Executive Vice President and Chief of Operations, ensuring seamless execution and a shared commitment to excellence on every project.

With Marc Heiman’s appointment as CEO & President in 2005, R+R was overhauled and repositioned from top to bottom. A key goal was to move beyond a national retail contractor and leverage past success in other sectors, bringing in top construction professionals dedicated to client service, reputation, and growth.

Our Unique Approach

As a full-service Construction Manager, our services consistently align with, but are not limited to, those outlined in the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Standard of Pre-Construction and Construction Phase Services. R+R cannot perform our duties in a vacuum. Only when we fully understand and respect the owner’s vision can we bring it to life. The collaborative process and responsibilities of all parties combined ensure the project’s success and consistency of the owner’s interest.

The Master Builder – prior to the 1900s, for 4,000 years, was the Architect, Builder, and sometimes even the Owner. The struggle for team collaboration in many key elements of cost management, means and methods, and constructability fell within the responsibility of one individual (the ultimate collaboration). Our disdain for Lump Sum Bidding, especially in a market such as this, which has stripped these very successful principles, leaving adversarial project teams with above-cost and below-quality outcomes. We must work together.
